Hey guys, I'm Bo-Tarah, your fitness coach but please, just Bo!
I'm the trainer behind the Body by Bo-Tarah and my mission is to help you start on your fitness journey by showing you how to take the first steps to find and fall in love with an active lifestyle.
To explain why I do this and why I'm so passionate about supporting you on your fitness journey, I have to first share a little bit about myself. Fitness has always been a journey for me, from the minute I completed my first beach run and the high it gave me, to where I am now, loaded with knowledge and keen to pass on what I discovered. It was an internal change as well as a physical one, an epiphany in a sense and now, I share my journey and progress photos in hopes that I spark something to stir inside you, the way it did for me the day I decided to make my changes... At 25, I went to Thailand for a holiday and had the most amazing time...it wasn't until I returned home and saw photos of myself on the beach that I noticed I'd lost control of my weight. I knew I'd gained, but I didn't realise it was that much. I'd gone from a size 6 to a 14 in the space of 5 or 6 years. Seeing the photos caused something to snap in my mind and I immediately made the decision to turn it around and regain control. I was so mad at myself for letting it happen.
With zero experience or knowledge in fitness, I began going for beach runs and cycling and altered my diet to eliminate all of the fast food I'd become accustomed to eating in my busy lifestyle. As my confidence grew, I took the next step and joined my local gym. I remember walking through the doors that first time, there were huge, muscly dudes everywhere grunting and sweating on all the machines and I was so intimidated! I had no idea where to start so I stuck to what I knew, cardio.
I continued to research different forms of fitness, enrolled in numerous training programs, expanded my knowledge and eventually learned about weight training, I forced myself on numerous occasions to get off the treadmill and take my book of work outs over to the male dominated weights area. Like most women, I first believed lifting weights would make me bulky so I avoided it like the plague.
Ladies! DO NOT do this! I wasted so much time on this belief and hindered my own progress along the way and I don't want to see you do the same thing! Lift! You will do yourself a great justice! I still love distance running and I still do it once a week or so for my mental health but the biggest lesson I've learned is to mix it up and find what you enjoy. If you love it then it isn't really work is it?
Two years later and 15kg gone, I decided to study personal training. NOT because I wanted to be a PT but to further enhance my knowledge and better my own training but the deeper in I got, the more people started asking me for help, the more I started to enjoy it and VOILA, here is Body! And I'm SO excited to begin your journey with you!
Working with me, you can rest assured you are being trained by someone who has been there and done that. I've experienced the highs and the lows, the good and the bad and that I make it my top priority to ensure you enjoy every step of the process. Trust me there is no better feeling than not only achieving your benchmarks but having a beautiful story to accompany it.
